Mystery sword for ID

I've been asked to help identify the sword pictured here. The owner claims it has been in the family for generations and is from N. Africa. I don't recognize it, and I have my doubts about the age....

Correction for the record: Type 3

On further research (ok, just Googling), the brass ring around the base of the hilt was a feature added in the Type 3 Collins No. 1005 and is not present in earlier models.
