Many thanks for your explanation but I did not mean pronunciation. I told that an one written word may have different meanings which depend on what kind of vowel absents between consonants.

I guess the most part of South India jamdhars had protection because they were historically single, main weapon for right hand as well as pata. North jamdhars became additional weapons for the left...

I suppose Lord Egerton bought weapons when he was in India in 1855 (he was 23 years old) like many others at that time, but to learn and describe it he started after the travel....

All the names of Indian spears during the last three centuries have been used indiscriminately. Even in India.

For the most part the term "sang" meant "javelin" or very thin and light spear.
