The metal disks aren't coins and I don't know the meaning of the markings or if the handle is always made of the same kind of ivory.

Yes, it seems like the swords were influenced from other cultures (maybe more European than Arab and Indian?) and the daggers and keris were indigenous.

Willem, yours (from Leiden) seems to be a Jambi variation of the Aceh peudeung, but with another hilt.

Michael

PS Here is the Aceh version with horn hilt.

It seems like local variations of sabers with D-guards were popular in this region (see picture below and those in Leiden).

If not Sumatra maybe Malaysia?

The hilt style and material resembles those of Aceh. The pins form an...

OK Detlef, I will give it a try.

I am a bit skeptical to it being 100 years based on those few (handful!) old ones I have seen all had much better blades. However, all the recent ones I have seen...

I waited too long and then it was gone...

The cross is, as Jim mentioned, often used as a universal geometric pattern to symbolize the four cardinal directions.
On talismans,...

Thanks Nacho.

Do you know the etymological background for those two sword terms?
Has, for instance, tenegre anything to do with Negros (just a wild guess)?

Hi Detlef,

You are correct in both your guesses ;)

PS But it did not go as high as I expected and I think it's a binangon, not a tenegre.

A cross-cultural Borneo kris

One very nice mandau shorter I managed to trade this unique kris with a local collector.
The fittings seems to be Tausug, the blade Maranao and the motifs Dayak.
