An older gunong with a great blade

Hello All,

I wanted to post the newest addition to my small family of gunongs; it's an older one (late 19th century maybe?) with a heck of a blade.

The ferrule and guard looks like silver...

Just wanted to add that the passable documentary in its entirety seems to be on youtube now, with what I think are Malay subtitles.

Because I collect and I study kali, more than one friend of mine has recommended the show. I tried a couple episodes.

Loved the smiths, loved Marcaida, loved the blades, hated the show.

Thanks,...

I thought that on gunongs, pointy luks came into play earlier than on kris. Am I wrong in thinking this?

New Gunong

Hello All,

I recently picked this one up from Epray, and while it's clearly not very old, it is (in my opinion) very pretty. Perhaps the prettiest gunong I've seen. Some one I showed it too at a...

A recently acquired tabak (from Apalit?)

Hello All,

I don't have this one in hand yet, and thus the pics are from the seller. I usually wait to post new pieces until I have them in hand, but I realized tonight that the tooled design on...

The hilt does look a little funky. Especially in the last two photos, particularly where it connects to the blade. The lines look off, if that makes any sense. There's also a weird "bump" on the one...

This would not even remotely surprise me. I thought it might be a little older based on how the horn plates were separating, but like I said, I don't know that much. I have a hard time distinguishing...

Gungongs! A big newer one and a small older one

Hello All,

These two gunongs have recently come to live with one. Both for prices low enough that they should be criminal. One has previously been seen in a family photo, but I thought it deserves...

Hello All,

I don't think I'm experienced enough to have an opinion on whether this is more in the Malay or Moro tradition (or an indonesian imitation of either). However, it's worth mentioning...

You're right the handle does look a lot like a Panabas.

Let me update our story. A barong and a sangi had a baby and it was adopted by a panabas who later moved to Spain.

Hello All,

Apologies if the answer is obvious, but do we know anything about this one?

It almost looks like a Sangi and a Barong had a baby.

Thanks,
