The blade is fastened to the handle by means of some kind of resin (?). Mostly, Mangbetu pieces have a tang which goes through the handle. This is not the case with this knife.

I took a pic of the...

I don't think it is as new as it looks on the first pics.

Vandoo has a point when he states that sometimes weapons were polished. Even irons weapons from Africa were polished. Each warrior likes...

Smile bump

No comments so far ?

I have handled this piece before I shipped it to Mauro and I must say it's old. But, as Mauro, I'm not sure of its origin.

Perhaps anyone else knows more ?

Thumbs up Weird looking Congolese knife

I had this one for quite some time. It's weird and has a very 'aggressive' look to it.

I like it because it's peculiar.

I think it's Congolese as the handle states 'YAKA', which is the...

I don't think so, Colin.

Most Central African spears have spearheads with a socket. This knife has a tang which goes through the handle.

The shape of the blade could have some resemblance with...

Luc, I think you might be on the right track. The handle of the piece you showed is similar.
If we look at the base of the blade, it's identical to my piece.

Question Strange African axe or club

This is also a new one. The seller told me it was a 'Tamberma axe' from Togo. Don't know if this is true. I don't think it's very old, but I like it. It's strange ! :p

The wooden handle has been...

This knife or shortsword came with a sheath. Again a beautifully forged blade.
The wooden handle is very thin with copper banding. There a small copper nail on top of the handle.
This piece has a...

I also think this one is Mangbetu or Zande is also possible.

You have a beauty with (in my opinion) a very nice ivory hilt. Could be the sheath was made for a European as it is atypical.

I also think it's Konda. But like Iain said : the variation in Congolese weapons is enourmous. I've seen a blade from one tribe, with a typical handle of another tribe.

This makes our hobby...

Here's the double knife Vandoo talked about. This set is relatively small, measuring about 21,5 cm in length.

The knives are all steel.

Does the small bronze belong to this bag ?

If so, I think it's a Sao bronze horseman figure (kotoko) from Chad. This would also give you a clue as to where the bag comes from.

Yes, that's correct : it's a Chokwe axe.

Strange that the blade can be fitted both ways. Then the axe becomes an adze.
