Bolo?

I'm really not sure where to place this piece. It was an auction find some years ago and listed as a bolo - not of course that that means anything.

It has a beautiful blade; the taper is very...

Small Ram Dao

This appears to be a small Ram Dao. I know I've seen something similar on the forum but can't find it with the search function.

The handle is a pleasant burl-type wood with a couple of small...

Thanks everyone.

Rick, thanks for the dhapor information - can you clarify for me what you mean by rebating one edge? Both edges have been sharpened for utility use. Thanks

IP - it actually...

I'm no expert, but this feels Nias to me. I had a quick flick through Albert's lastest book (Traditionele Wapens van Nias - Zonneveld) and Type 10 on page 160 has some similarities - enough to...

Wooden Hilt Short Sword for Identification

I can't place this sword/knife with any certainty. It feels like an item from Borneo or the Indonesian archipelago, but I may be completely off base and it could be from somewhere in Africa.

The...

Victorian (?) Antler Hilt Kris

This feels to me like a Victorian re-hilting of an Indonesian keris.

I hesitate to put it in the keris forum as I'm not sure it's appropriate, but of course I hope the moderators will shift it...

Long Argentian (?) Knife

I was told that this was an Argentinian naval dirk but I have come to the conclusion that it is not, from what I can find of that class of weapon, but rather is a civilian knife. I can see why the...

Thank you everyone for the thought-provoking information and opinions. The possible Dutch angle hadn't occurred to me and is something I'll look into with interest. I think there may well be...

Thank you all. It's good to have a clearer attribution. All of the weapons we look at have such individual journeys, and like all useful tools are often repaired and repurposed. I find the strange...

Thank you for all the replies folks. Some very interesting information. We can hope that one day someone will write the definitive book on dha. I certainly look forward to it.

George III Dragon-Head Spadroon

Military swords are not my area of collecting, but occasionally one drifts into my collection. The dealer listed this as a George III spadroon. It's certainly a spadroon, and I would say 18C but...

Thanks RobT - much appreciated. Great to have more cultural context for this weapon. Interesting insight about the possible use of pipe for the hilt.

I've searched the classic threads and we...

Iron Hilt Dha

This dha is not in great condition, but it has been stabilised, leaving a blackened blade and (iron?) hilt. I think someone has polished the brass studs rather than them being a later addition. No...

Cord Wrap Kris

A Philippine kris, but not sure exactly from which region or people.

It seems to have been possibly re-hilted, or at the very least re-gripped. It has a very simple, but surprisingly subtly...

The other element that made me think Philippines is the swollen ribbing on the grip which reminded me of some kris I've seen - none in my collection unfortunately! :)

But here are a couple of...

Thanks for the responses. They don't come up often, particularly with the scabbard, I was very pleased to acquire it.

Another Lumad Kris

I'm guessing this is also a Lumad kris?

I'll dig it out soon and post it with better pictures and dimensions.

Silver Hilt Iraqi Jambiya

I believe this to be a 19C Kurdish Iraqi jambiya. I'd say that the scabbard is a newer replacement, but from within the cultural context. It has a horn hilt with inset turqoises and one coral.

Bagobo Sword?

I think this is Bagobo. A laminated steel blade, half brass hilt with a brass wrapped pommel nut. The hilt was once stained black. The upper scabbard is wrapped with a narrow woven fabric strip. ...

Is this a panabas? It has a very simple handle with a decorated ferrule, a thick spine and a laminated blade. Sharp and heavy.

Dimensions

Length 91.5cm
Blade length 53.5cm
Blade width ...
