Sword ID Help Needed
4 Attachment(s)
Hello, I've had this sword laying around for quite a while now and thought it is time to try to find out something about it. The scabbard is leather covered wood with brass fittings. Wooden grip with brass back strap and guard. I have no idea at all as to where this came from or its age so any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Robert
Total length of sword is 26-7/8 inches Blade length is 22 inches Blade width at widest is 1-1/6 inches Blade at thickest is 3/16 inch |
I have been looking at this and felt I had no idea where it has come from. I will have a guess that it is from Africa. North Africa possibly even parts of West Africa. Something about the leather. The chape looks very North African. To me it does not appear Asian.

Of course the wordwork grip replicates the grips on early 19th century British cavalry sabres, with certain licence. All the best, Jim |
Tim and Jim, thank you both for your help on this. So the consensus is that this is probably North African. Would either of you like to take a guess as to the age of this sword? As this does not really fit into what I collect I will be posting it in the swap forum. Again my thanks for your help.
