Hello Lew,

Congrats! I knew a forumite would pick this up... ;)

I suspect that the scabbard is a late replacement. It's traditional enough to not bother about it though. Please post a close-up of the crest at the rear of the hilt. I bet the blade will show nice laminations, too.

Regards,
Kai

i'd put a bid in my sniper as it's timing was 2am here, y'all drove the price up beyond it before the end so the sniper didn't get to bid. ah, well ,maybe next time i'll remember to bid higher. nice catch.

Nice catch Lou! Congratulations. Older one.

Lew 12th November 2008 04:13 AM

Thanks guys :)

I thought it looked like a good old one and also thought it wouldn't go that high either but by todays prices I think I did ok? Will post better pics once I clean it up.

Lew,

I think that the price you paid was good. You did well.

Hi All

The barong arrived today and there is good news and bad news. First when I opened the box the tip of the scaabbard was broken off :( and the rattan bindings were broken and glued down in a few spots very sloppy work. So I cut off all the rattan and stripped off the glue. I refinished the scabbard with some light sanding and brown Kiwi shoe polish. I will have to put new binding on the scabbard at a later date here are a few pics. Btw I etched the barong and it has random patten welded blade :D
