Seeking more info about my Keris
Greetings,
I have become caretaker of this wonderful keris, and would like to learn more about its history, style, and any other information from those knowledgeable about keris in general. Thanks and have a wonderful day. http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/p...i/DSC01616.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/p...i/DSC01614.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/p...i/DSC01622.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/p...i/DSC01615.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/p...i/DSC01619.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/p...i/DSC01623.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/p...i/DSC01624.jpg http://i415.photobucket.com/albums/p...i/DSC01621.jpg Thank you again, & sorry for the poor quality of photos. Sincerely, apolaki |
Hi Apolaki, welcome to the forum. :)
Yep, these are some pretty bad pictures. :) Maybe you could take some better ones for us. I do think that this might be a fairly recent "relic". |
I agree with David. This is a modern rendition of a Majapahit keris.

Apolaki,
Also for these pictures I must say, they are also awful. Better also place some overall pictures without the macro-mode. For the keris the comments are the same as David and Battara placed about the first keris. You seem to have a nose for tourist stuff. This example is a mixture of a keris sajen and a keris putut. The combination already points out that it is very recent work with the only purpose to collect some money. Those pieces have one advantage. If you can buy a real keris you can compare the real thing with this recent "work" and find out what to look for. But better before spending more money is read and learn from the forum and buy some good books!! |
Hi Apolaki ,
I would second Henk's suggestion to read more . :) A reading list can be found here . I'd recommend starting with #3 on the list . http://www.kerisattosanaji.com/kerisinformation.html |
David Van Duuren's bibliography is really a must have.
It was published a couple of years ago, so the more recent publications are not mentioned, but it really does give a very good idea of the contents of a great number of keris publications. As Rick has recommended, Garrett Solyom's little book is an excellent publication to start with. I believe it can still be sourced on the web. |
A. G. Maisey, congratulations...I didnīt know this articles from your authorship. I already have them.
My best regards Gonzalo |
