hello de keris is not a bugi but i think javanees

regards semar

I agree that the blade is not Bugis, though it may well be Sumatran. If i am not mistaken many Sumatran keris followed certain Javanese pakem for their blades when under the influence of the Javanese kratons.

Is the seluut malay?

the blade looks like Javanese / Javanese influence. The selut / pendokok is peninsular IMO.

This has a toli-toli loop. Does this mean that this piece is ceremonial?

IMHO, the blade is Sumbawa/Bima not Sumatra, Lamba Lima (Luk 5). Previous owner might be a Buginese or Macassare. Both Gowa and Sumbawa/Bima kingdoms have family relations. The bottom part of the sarung/sepatu shows authentic Buginese handcraft influenced. It is common to see a blade like this in Sulawesi. It is NOT called TOLI TOLI the correct name is PASSIOSUMANGE means 'Ring of Spirit'. There is a belief that the wearer of the Tappi (Keris) with PASSIOSUMANGE attached will have a greater sense of what is happening in his area/home land. It is also a symbol of high status.
