Spanish H.C. Sword

Espada de caballeria de linea ... not in the best of conditions  .
Model 1803 ... also (wrongly) called 1799. A basket hilt pattern already in use since 176X. Grip with thumb ring. Straight (non fullered) blade 85 cms.; double edged in the last section. ... Having traces of inscriptions in one side of the blade: R Cs IV and in the other Ca. D La. 1807. Obviously an old warrior ... showing signs of battles against men and also against (wood and leather) grip rotting  . Anyone here with one in better condition? Fernando |
That's the dragoon's version, known as a "dragonera". The mentioned letters stand for Caballeria de Linea, or Line Cavalry.
There was also an infantry version sans the thumb hook, and I also believe the guard was less roundish... They are now making copies of it for reenacting purposes. Nice catch! Manolo |
Pues ... dragonera.
Thank you, Manolo Fernando |
