ANOTHER ONE FOR THE DHAFIA
4 Attachment(s)
Hi guys,
Just received this, and am interested in your thoughts. NOT in my opinion a "tourist" item as the blade is razor sharp and the whole item appears too well made. Also definate age shown on the Dha, and wear on the baldric. Metal on hilt and scabbard bands and drag is brass, showing quite good age tarnish. Size is SMALL---overall in scabbard 24". Blade 15 3/4". Hilt 6" I wondered if this has been made for a boy? What area of origin? HEEEELLLLLLP!! ;) |
I like it!
I don't think the size is unusually small. Many are surprisingly small. I will look forward to other comments from those more knowledgeable than me. Cheers Jason |
Definitely Burmese, and the style of the fittings looks Kachin - flared pommel, three-part grip with a bulge in the middle, sharp flare on the chape (drag). It could have been made for a kid, but my understanding is that men do not carry dha until puberty (it is part of what makes one "a man"), so its probably just small.
