EAAF Service Outage 25 - 29 Feb 2008

Early Monday Morning the MySQL database without warning attempted to exceed it maximum allocated size and this caused it to be locked down for write activities. Once I figured this out, I was advised that in order to enlarge the database the whole site would need to be moved to a different server platform and IP address. This occurred on Tuesday, but the allocation settings in the MySQL system were not updated and it took until the right person answered the tech support phone. I apologize for this inconvenience.

I would appreciate members watching for any unusual program behavior by the forums, and if observed, reporting same below in this thread.

Just glad you're back. Withdrawal is rough.

Lee 29th February 2008 11:13 PM

Thanks Norman, there was a setting that needed to be changed owing to the migration of the website to a different server.

I am seeing many, but not all, so there may be some issue that will require manual intervention.

Current State of Forums Recovery

Known Issues:

1. A number of attached images has gone missing; so far identified in threads 5972, 5993, 6010, 6028 & 6029. The images are present in the file structure, so I can only presume this must be corruption caused when the database 'hit its head' on the ceiling. I will edit these back into the threads manually over the next few days.

2. The new forums link to the old UBB forum takes users to the main page, but searches come up empty. Bookmarks to those old pages still work. I believe that this is a settings issue associated with the server migration and it is in my repair queue.

Change in Attachment & Image Rules:

The new hosting plan gives more headroom for image files and other attachments. The maximum dimension is now 1280 x 1280 (was 800 x 1280).
Maximum attachment size is now a megabyte (was 200,000 for images). Please do not waste these resources, remembering that the upload for you will be longer and the download for everyone will be longer for bigger images, but please do use them when you need to show greater detail.

Please continue to report any additional issues you may encounter.

Mild increase in forum database failures to connect

Since the server migration and restart of the forums, I am noticing a mild increase in error messages reporting failures to connect to the database.

If this happens to you, particularly when you are making a post, I suggest that you use your browser's 'back button' to go back to the previous page, wait a minute or so, and then try the post again.

Data base connection

Glad you have noticed Lee, it has happened to me again yesterday but as I see in the fault message that you receive emails everytime this happens which is good to know.
regards

Gavin
