This seems to be a nice one and well constructed to. The hilt could be rhino horn?

I can't wait to see more of this one! Outstanding.

the hilt looks like wood...
From here. Rhino horn has a clearly fibrous structure. I think that there may have been a thread on it, and there was definitely and article.
Very outstanding piece! and very unusual. Another thread about a month ago showed something like this. |
An early type
Nice find Lew. This is an early type. probably mid to late 19 C. I have seen very few of those. Mine is without a scabbard but with the silver pommel cover. i will mail photos tomorrow. I think a similar one is shown in Elgood book but I do not have it in front of me now.
If you ever get tired of this one... |
Artzi
If I ever decide to sell it you will be the first one I call :) Btw Artzi you are the one who got me hooked on jambiyas in the first place  ;) Lew |
The jambiya arrived today and it's a beauty. The hilt turned out not to rhino but still a great piece :)

Hi All
I snap off a few more pics and one of them is a comparison to a 12-13 inch Jambiya and the size difference is huge. There seems to be an inscription on the back of the throat on the scabbard? Lew |
Hi Lew, very impressive!!! Congratulations also for the very good pictures :)

Hi all
Sorry for returning late. Here is our exemplar: Blade 20 inches, very well forged high carbon steel: http://www.oriental-arms.com/photos/extra/61/000361.jpg Handle is horn, solid piece (but not Rhino horn) decorated with silver imitation coins and silver pommel cap. http://www.oriental-arms.com/photos/extra/62/000362.jpg Total length 26 inches. I do not have the scabbard for it, but another exemplar I had seen was with a leather covered scabbard mounted with silver locket and chape with fine filigree work . I think it is an early type. Early 19 C. or a bit earlier. |
Artzi
Very nice jambiya I like the silver work on the hilt. :) Lew |
