New arrival - Victorian wavy blade dagger

I don't know any other way to describe this other than as a Victorian's idea of a fantasy dagger; certainly the various elements don't belong to any single ethnic background.
http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL151.../225893078.jpg The carving on the hilt is decidedly oriental, *probably* Japanese though I wouldn't swear to it. The oval hilt is plain steel with a little bit of scalloping to the edge. The blade is solid, roughly 3/16" thick, with a little pitting on the forward half of the blade on both sides, and the odd chevron etched into the blade about 1 1/2" from the guard. The hilt appears to be ivory, but with a couple of chips patched with a plain white compound. Oddly, the silver collar where the hilt joins to the handguard appears to have been made by a screw-on cap of some kind. Dimensions: Hilt 3 1/2", blade 10 3/4". So, Victorian whimsy or something else? Fenris |

could be the dagger for an inner guard of a masonic lodge. we have a very similar , almost home crafted, victorian one in ours.
