VANDOO THREADS
I note that one of the threads previously posted while he was with us has appeared below. I refer to the NAGA WEAPONS thread.
As we are well aware there have been many extremely informative threads posted in the past by this now deceased Member. As a suggestion to the Moderators, would it be possible for all of VANDOOs threads to be posted together as a STICKY so that future Members, and of course those present Members, can have the benefit of easy access to all of these. Stu,
VANDOO was a prolific author on these pages. Even if we look just at the threads he started, there are three pages of entries. It would take several hours to create a thread with those entries and links. If someone wants to do that, then I suggest they create a new thread titled "VANDOO'S TOPICS" and copy the titles of all the threads he initiated and links to those threads. I would be happy to stick it for them or add it to the Classic Threads page. Instead of creating a Classic Thread or Sticky, I suggest that Members undertake a search using the Advanced Search Option. Use the following settings:

This is a great subject, Barry (Vandoo) was a remarkably fascinating guy, good friend and profound contributor here. ...deeply missed.
On the occasion of visiting him at his home in Oklahoma, I will never forget the experience...this guy was a true adventurer, pure 'Indiana Jones' !!! and every question led to amazing tales, as he led me to the location where a related item was kept or displayed. The ENTIRE house was a museum! which frankly might have been an Oklahoma wing of the Smithsonian! Even the kitchen was full of weapons and artifacts. Even the most esoteric matter would lead to a sub collection including rocks etc etc. I threw out the subject of the 'deaths head moth', which was a rather spooky trope used in "Silence of the Lambs".....he smiled and said.....follow me......in drawers of insects etc. THERE IT WAS!!!! A DEATHS HEAD MOTH!! :) There was nothing too esoteric to be there with him. When I asked him where in the world VANDOO came from.......he wryly said, "Edgar Rice Burroughs" in Tarzan............in Mangani (the ape language Burroughs incredibly created) Vando= good! Barry was unique :) and his entries are a treasure of well experienced knowledge. |
Hi Ian,
Yes I agree that to gather all of VANDOOs threads together would be a large undertaking, but my suggestion was more based on placing some sort of reference to them in the Classic Threads section.....maybe something like SEARCH: "VANDOO".... (Threads relating to many native weapons). Remember that Barry has been gone for quite some time now and his threads may not be familiar to newer Members. Stu Hi Jim, Lucky you for having visited Barry in his "museum". He visited me in NZ some years ago and we were off looking for local artifacts. He did manage to score a MOA bone which was top of his list at the time. I heard many stories of his collection and his foraging trips in the USA. Sadly missed. Stu |
