Weird personalized Spanish 1728 cavalry sword

I just got it today. Plenty of work ahead, but I think most of the rust will go away.
This is a post 1760 hilt with a probably older remounted GIO KNEGT from Solingen blade. EN ALEMANIA on the other side. Somebody threw away original grip and pommel and replaced them with a new mahogany broader grip and wasters. All well done and purposeful. He also moved the quillions and reduced the ricasso length. No idea of when this was done, but it does not seems like an antiquarian trying to complete a faulty sword. Rather somebody with large hands adapting an official model to his needs and fencing style. I made comparisons with another 1728 with a GIO KNEGT blade. Equilibrium point is displaced forward and weight diminished from 1150 to 1050 grams. |
