Rare twin Burmese knives in same sheath
6 Attachment(s)
This is a rare item. I've been collecting mainland SE Asian swords and knives for nearly 40 years and have never come across, or seen pictures of, a pair of Burmese knives in the same sheath before. I'm calling them "twins" but the blades are of different length and appear to have been made that way originally, judging from the way the spines of each blade differ slightly. I believe the fittings are silver but I have not tested them. Judging from the areas of discoloration, the carved hilts may well be bone.
The blades are of far better than usual quality. They are razor sharp and each has a small chip on the cutting edge. They have certainly been used. Judging from their condition, I believe these knives are probably mid- to late-19th C. OAL in sheath = 9.25 in. Knife 1: OAL = 9.0 in., Blade = 5.5 in., Hilt = 3.5 in. Knife 2: OAL = 8.125 in., Blade = 4.625 in., Hilt = 3.5 in. Price: US$425.00 plus shipping and insurance To save you money, I ship with Australia Post which is less than half the cost of private shipping companies. Please request a shipping price. The item should weigh about 500–700 gm when packed. Shipping to the U.S.A. is a crap shoot at the moment considering the highly confused tariff situation created by President Trump. In the past, this item would have fallen below the de minimus level for import duty. Now it likely will attract import costs levied by U.S. Customs. I am very reluctant to ship any edged items to the U.S. at the present time. Please note, I do not ship to China or Russia. . |
