Hi,
This came together with the barung. Probable age? maguindanao, maranao or iranun? No scabbard. Thank you in advance Yves |
Very nice! It will clean up well. The carving is very high quality. What is the length and how thick is the spine? I believe it is late 19C or early 20C.

This kampy I like much more than the barung. Could very well be from the late 19th century. A clean and etched blade could provide more. I really like it! :)

Well preserved kampilan in a neglected state. The hilt is nicely carved and intact. Definitely needs a good clean to show it in its full glory. I suspect it has a laminated blade, which cleaning and etching might bring out, but age is hard to assess in its present state. If I had to guess at age, I would say circa 1900.
I have yet to learn of distinguishing features for ascribing a tribal origin to kampilan. Since this one came with a Maranao keping, a working hypothesis might be that this kampilan is also Maranao in origin. |
I was looking at the okir of this piece and also lean towards Maranao
