I want to show a new addition to my modest collection. This is a very rare leather powder flask, which was used by the Kazakhs.

Nice, as in interesting. What is sometimes missed is that muzzle loaders, whether flint, match or cap need a slew of support accessories. Powder flasks, primers, bullet or ball bags, cappers and later on cartridge cases. And then we go on to all the other impedimenta. A rich area of collecting.

I would say that these are accessories from Tibet, if I did not know that they are Kazakh.

I also doubted. But he specifically wrote to my acquaintance, an ethnographer from Kazakhstan, whose name is Yeraly Ospanov. He is the author of two excellent books on ethnography and Kazakh ornaments. It was he who confirmed my guess that this is a Kazakh powder flask. |
Here is a previous post with my example
