Hello Punal,

Great aquisition on the twist core kris. Congrats dude!! :D

Any chance we can see a picture of the decoration on the silver plate on the top part of the the gaurd....is it decorated with okirr work??

Very nice display as well.

Henk 15th July 2006 08:24 PM

WOW!!!!

VANDOO 15th July 2006 10:35 PM

WOW INDEED!!

WHERE DO YOU FIND THIS QUALITY OF KERIS, OVER THE YEARS I HAVE SEEN MANY HUNDREDS OF KRIS AND VERY FEW HAVE THE PATTERNED BLADES. THE SWASSA GRIP AND SILVER POMMEL AND WHAT LOOKS LIKE BRAIDED WIRE ON THE GRIP SET OFF THE BLADE NICELY. CONGRADULATIONS ON SOME REAL BEAUTIES.

sabertasche 16th July 2006 12:03 AM

That is BEAUTIFUL! Some day I'll find one for my museum....some day

Wonderful aquisition.

the twisted core panel is excellent! been wanting to get a hold of something similar to that. so i'm assuming you're done collecting then? (j/k). brad, just like what i beam requested, wouldn't mind seeing the top view of the pommel.

Well, Punal, that wasn't very considerate of you - just think about how much skill and compassion that distinguished veteran put into mounting those blades on the plague... :( :p :D :D :D

Are my eyes betraying me or is that a hexagonal brass ferrule? If so, this seems to be a replacement hilt done in Luzon (there would have been a brass end plate fastened by a pin where you can see that hole in the pommel).

BTW, the twisted core Maranao kris is just gorgeous. I assume that's also swaasa inlay along the blade?

Regards,
Kai

i had thought of quiting months ago (not nice being broke all time) but nice one's keeps popping up, been saying "my last one", for the past eight mos. and look at it :o not an easy gig but i'll try :D should shut my computers, home and at work ;)

lost my digital camera while on my trip to northern cal. with my family, i had to borrow one yesterday and returned it back right away, i'll try to get it borrow it back again. the pommel though is a two piece construction, the top
and a band (nailed part) soldered/welded together, similar to ibeam's silver horse hoof pommel. though this one is circular, no orik.

kai,

i really like the plaque, but my heart belongs to the moro blade, i don't have any idea what the other pieces are but my home gym is just perfect for them :)

no, the new krises ferrule is not hexagonal, it is of brass construction similar to the other 18th c.kris with twist core. the pommel was carved from a carabao horn (octagonal).

not sure if the inlays on the the bigger kris with twist core is swaasa? but it look like similar material to bands on the handle. should have it checked.

thanks,
arnel

A RARE TURKISH KRIS LOL! :D THAT WOULD BE RARE INDEED.
IT WOULD BE GOOD TO SAVE SOME OF THE PICTURES FROM THE AUCTION BEFORE THE KRIS WAS CLEANED TO SHOW THE NATURAL TARNISH ON THE SILVER ECT. UNFORTUNATELY THEY ARE NOT VERY GOOD PICTURES BUT THAT MAY HAVE HELPED YOU WIN THE KRIS , IF THE PICTURES WERE AS GOOD AS YOURS THE BIDDING WOULD HAVE GONE HIGHER. A SUPER DATU GRADE KERIS IN EVERY WAY, IF IT COULD ONLY TALK.
I WONDER WHERE THE SELLER GOT THE IDEA THAT IT WAS ORIGINALLY JAPANESE?. I SUPOSE THE JAPANESE MAY ALSO HAVE BROUGHT HOME SOME MORO KRIS AND OTHER WEAPONS DURING WW2 SO PERHAPS IT WAS IN JAPAN AT SOME TIME? SO IT MIGHT BE WORTH ASKING THE SELLER WHY THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE IDEA, HE DOSEN'T KNOW MUCH BUT MIGHT HAVE A LITTLE INFORMATION ON WHERE AND HOW HE GOT IT. ITS GOOD TO KEEP EVEN THE SMALL BITS OF INFORMATION ESPECIALLY ON A KRIS AS NICE AS THIS ONE.

nechesh 16th July 2006 04:13 PM

OK Punal.....that first kris.....well, all i can say is....It's just not right! :D

Simply beautiful! :)

Ferguson 16th July 2006 05:31 PM

I remember that "Japanese" auction - that was also what crossed my thought back then...

Actually, I didn't recognized this one from Arnel's nice pics - can someone get me up to speed with an ebay #? Thanks!

Well, I for one think you did a good deed to free this blade! :)

BTW, the Madurese keris might be pretty decent as well - post some pics of it and let the keris specialists have a look... ;)

The nimcha is probably tourist or wedding ceremony quality.
No idea about that star dagger - Henk suggested a Moroccan or Filipino origin?

Thanks! I didn't realized that the pommel is octagonal which doesn't fit with my suggestion anway... :o

Let us know - AFAIK it doesn't look like tarnished silver!

hi kai,

the silver pommel was tarnished, and the blade was very rusty when i rec'd it thursday afternoon, can't stand rust so i cleaned it up with a very fine sanding paper, and final polished it w/ mother's metal polishing paste including the handle/pommel, i have not etch the blade yet, may be next week when i have time again.

Wow, nice catch indeed! I have to ask; Where did you land such a catch?

Battara 18th July 2006 01:50 AM

I was going to ask you to post that one. Wonderful puppy. Looks like the hilt is made of silver and swaasa. Would you also show the top of the hilt please?

Andrew 18th July 2006 05:07 AM

Oh, my.
