Latest Ngandu,Saka knife
 

This arrived today. I am very pleased with it. It did not look like this, but after a quick rub down with some coarse steel wool and oil it looks ace, the ace of spades :rolleyes: I was not expecting it to be so large when compared to another one. It is funny how things can be, I got this knife with a different Congo knife for just over half the price of the other one shown, bought some years ago. I was quite happy with that price then :rolleyes: :confused: .

There is a 1920? photo of a chap with a similar knife held in his belt in the book "De fer et de fierte", the one of interest to you, which is always nice to see as a collector. Here are some more pictures of both. You will understand that the cleaning is still fresh, it can take a few years before it mellows but rust must not get too hard a grip on your treasures. On the large blade it is possible to see the side of the blade to be worked on last, as the marks of the anvil stone are clearly visible on the reverse.

I HAVE A LARGE ONE MUCH LIKE YOUR BIGGEST ONE MINE IS 27 LONG AND 9 5/8IN WIDE. I WONDER WHY THEY ARE MADE LIKE THAT? THEY SEEM TOO AWKWARD FOR FIGHTING PERHAPS THERE IS A WAY TO USE THEM AS A SHIELD OR PERHAPS TO COOK PANCAKES OVER THE CAMP FIRE :D I MAY HAVE A KNIFE LIKE YOUR SMALLER ONE AROUND HERE SOMEWHERE BUT WILL HAVE TO LOOK FOR IT. CONGRADULATIONS THEY ARE BOTH VERY NICE EXAMPLES.

Mine is a total of 20 inches and at that size I reckon it works very well as a weapon. Not so good for pan cakes but maybe drop scones as we called them in Scotland. Where I spent much of my formative years. I am not a Scot though. I can remeber being proded in the back at school and called a Saxanac, but I rather fancied Moragan.
