Translation on Choora please?

I stepped out of line a little on this and bought it on the blur of the moment so to speak. It looks pretty good quality work but on these that does not mean much. The spine is nice. A translation of the text would be great. I hope it does not say Hi sucker I made this last year The handle is quite large and made of bone. The blade at the forte seems to have been chiseled to make the the desired accommodation for the hilt. I do not know much about these, early 20th century possible late 19th? Made yesterday?

Hi Tim
It looks like those "inapropriate scratches" on the blade forte are not unusual ... mine also has them. Let's see what the experts tell about it all. |

Sorry Tim,
Is that scabbard, brass covered? And is its side in the picture, the outer one? Thanks |

Hi Fernando,
The scabbard is wood covered with almost foil thin brass. As you can see I think this one is genuinely old. I had one before where the tip of the scabbard curved up, all the materials were very similar but the feel was not right, the handle was some how not as functional/robust feeling light in the hand. The brass on the scabbard was a lot heavier if I remember correctly. |

Very nice indeed, and surely looking old... 18-19th century ? No tourist thing, it certainly had a long time user, no fake. Being decorated in both sides is new for me ( what a surprise ) . The ones you see more often are leather covered, like mine, with a loop on the backside for the belt or baldric. Yours hangs in a different manner, this maybe meannig a different regional provenance.
One more question, before the conoisseurs come around: The brass on your handle looks a bit pale ... was it the picture brightness or is it really made of "white" brass ? |
Yes a white brass, probably a lot of tin in the alloy which would be just that little more expensive.
