I just open the box...this 2 pieces were inside.
The first is a dagger, maybe philippines, engraved Q V D, very strong. The second seems like a short sword, maybe from navy? Only with a mark, a Z inside a shield. I hope enjoy pictures Thanks |
I'd agree that the dagger is from the Island of Luzon.
Not seen a sword like this before, but it also looks broken. I was wondering if it were Spanish, but not as sure. |
I have investigated and the mark from the sword seems german, clemen & jung but I don,t know nothing about origin of the sword.
Thank you very much Carlos |
Hi carlos,
Yes, the blade on your short sword is likely European, perhaps a cavalry saber from the mid-19th C. I agree with Jose when he says that the blade was broken and reshaped. There appears to have been a knuckle guard also, and part of that is missing. The dagger is interesting. The hilt looks Ilokano to me, with a horn grip, a short brass ferrule at either end, and a small knob fixed to the full length tang. Also, the close-fitting tooled leather sheath commonly accompanies Ilokano knives. I'm assuming that the cross section of the blade is a flattened triangular shape, which is certainly seen on some Luzon knives of the late 19th C. A couple of good finds. Ian |
