French/Belgium percussion pistol
5 Attachment(s)
Good evening!
here aree some photos of on percussion pistol. It is about 33cm long and bore is about 18mm. But can anyone tell more-how old it perhaps is and is it French or Belgian? Any manufactures marks I didn't find-but something on barrel looks like number? And other things too..? regards Markku |
Hello
For me, it is ina falsification ..... despite the engravings .... the hammer looks like a shotgun ... and the barrel, despite being of two orders (remember the Spanish barrel, surely it lacks some test punch ... Affectionately |
Hi all!
Perhaps that is fake-I really don't know-but to me has been told that this perhaps is a modified flintlock? regards Markku |
I guess you are right Markku, in that the lock looks like having been converted from flintlock.

Hello
Of course, I differ. There is nothing on the plate that indicates that it is a transformation. The screw holes of the frizzen spring and the frizzen should be visible, conveniently covered. In addition, the decoration, the line of the border follows this, and the decoration with scrolls invades areas where supposedly should be the frizzen spring, usually without decoration. Also, it is strange the shape of the pump or massacre, to fix the chimney Affectionately |
Hello
I would like to see an image of the inside of the lock Affectionately |
Hi Markku,
Interesting pistol but I lean towards Fernando Ks suggestion of (not a fake) but perhaps a "put together" piece. The hammer does not appear to strike the nipple on the flat, but appears to strike at about 45degrees, which would not be normal. This could well be because the hammer is a replacement, and the throw is wrong. Also to me the stock shape does not seem to suit, particularly at the butt end, and the barrel tang does not fit properly. As far as Proof, and other marks are concerned, have you had a look UNDER the barrel, which is the most likely place (though not always) for them to be. Stu |

Pic of under the barrel not clear enough to show if there are marks or not. Are there any? Stu |

Hello
Now that I have seen the photograph inside the lock, I correct my observation. Effectively the lock has been primitively of flint and the bowl has been eliminated and the upper part of the plate has been removed by filing, although the engraving has been done after the transformation. The hammer is from a shotgun, and the inscription does not say anything, it is only a simulation of writing, common in weapons produced in the East. Affectionately |
Hi Markku,
Despite the fact that it is probably an "eastern" pistol, rather than French/Belgian, IMHO it is still a nice and interesting piece. Regards Stu |

Thanks for all!
Would be nice to know how far from "east" this one is? But no problem-pistol still looks nice hanging on wall! regards Markku |
