Madura Keris with Square Pesi?

Hi,

This is my first post in this forum. Sorry if I got wrong words or grammar because my english is not so good.

In the attached pictures are the latest Keris I got. I really love this keris. My opinion about this keris is:

Dapur : Brojol
Tangguh : Old madura
Pamor : maybe Bendo Segodo / Uler lulut?

The most interesting part about this keris is its pesi. From what I know, square pesi is from old tangguh like Kediri, etc. But is it possible for a keris from tangguh Madura also has square pesi? Because I have not seen any Madura keris with square pesi.

The other thing that got my attention is about its edge (landhep) part. Compared to its pesi which has some corrosion, the edge of this keris is quite smooth. Is this keris has got some treatment before (besut) to make its edge more smooth?

The other pictures about this keris's pesi will be posted in the comment section.

Thank you for your attention,

Best regards,

Joe

Other pesi picture :)

Hello Joe,

Welcome at our forum!

Thanks, I was going to ask for those additional pics! ;)

The diameter of the tang had been reduced; it may never have been exactly circular - however, it seems to have been roundish at the gonjo. I'd suggest that the square cross-section is a later modification.

Regards,
Kai

Hello Kai,

Thanks. Yes, the pesi got smaller size after the connection with gonjo. I attached more pictures about it.

There is also 2 tiny holes near the pesi (I gave yellow colour dot on in that area). Is there any usability or meaning for that 2 tiny holes?

Thanks,

Best regards,

Joe

BTW, one has to stipulate that the cross-section of the pesi apparently was quite irregular to start with...

There are iron wedges on each side of the pesi to fix the gonjo; these have rotted away resulting in a small hole at the head/gandik side and apparently some more missing at the tail side.

Kai

Hello Kai,

Thank you for your explanation. That makes me more love this keris. There is a quote here : "Tak kenal maka tak sayang". (Not knowing so can not love).

Best regards,

Joe

Atau mungkin:- sudah kenal, maka tak senang.

Not in respect of this keris, but that's the way your positive quote is sometimes commented upon.
