Hello all,
I was wondering if anybody can pleaese help identify this double edged short sword with wooden scabbard. Any information would be appreciated. Age, provenace, name?? Here are some pics. |
Asian; I'm guessing Philippines, though there seem to be hints of the mainland (the blade, the sheath bindings, the carving style on the pommel); of China or Korea. There have been Chinese people in many countries for a long time....

Let's see: the "pommel" looks Philippino or Indonesian, the forward ferrule and S-guard look "Chinese" (in the broad sense), the blade could be from anywhere, but looks Chinese-ish, the sheath could be from any of the above...
Just to be different than Tom Hyle (is that Tom Hoyle in diguise? :-) ), I'll say that it came from a Chinese enclave either in Indonesia or the PI. Neat, weird thing. Thanks for sharing it. BTW, what does the label say? |
Tom,
Thank you for the info. I had the same guess as being some sort of Chinese sword. Although, the scabbard does have some of the Visayan bolo scabbard characteristics. Fern, Glad to share the pics. The white label says "Philipine Moro Beheading Sword circa WWII" . Thanks again. |
