An Attractive Kalasan

I think, like some other Batak swords, the kalasan is a little underappreciated. They are short and lightweight, but sleek and elegant in design. They are not particularly rare, but it's always nice to find a really good and unique example.

Here is one I picked up at the Baltimore show after a little clean-up. I was attracted to its uniquely carved hilt, heavier than typical blade, and swassa mounts(though damaged on the upper scabbard mount). Also note the swassa rosettes to the carved pommel.

Dimensions:

26in. overall; 21in. blade; the blade is 1.25in wide at its widest point

Hello Charles,
indeed a very nice Kalasan, thank's for sharing. I have only two very simple ones and would be glad to own such a beauty.

Regards,
Detlef

THAT IS A REAL BEAUTY. ! THE WORK ON THE BLADE SORT OF REMINDS ME OF A KEY. IF THEY RAN THAT THRU YOU AND TURNED IT, IT WOULD CERTAINLY UNLOCK THE SPIRIT AND LET IT OUT.

Interestingly, the style I trained a little of used this primarily in very close quarters. :) The majority of the cuts were draw cuts with the elbow so this handle would be very useful.

Superior example, Charles. Congrats!
