1 Attachment(s)
picked this up for a number of pennies less than a pound.
again, estate sale, no size info. will post more & better photo when it arrives any ideas or info appreciated, thanks. listed as a 'possible exercise or juggling club, tho the grip end does not haven the usual ridge to keep your hand from slipping, the lack made me think it would work better for throwing... whatever it is, if you throw or whack someone with it , it''ll ruin their day. |

found this similar one in google images: not mine of course. listed as a 'zulu' throwing club.

my thingy arrived. 260 grams, 19 in. long (48 cm.)looks like it used to be longer as there is a more recentfresh cut right at the end, wich also has a broken off steel pin in the centre, like the remains of a hook or eye used to hang it for display. i think it may have been cut to fit luggage. :(
anyway, sems to be a thrower more than an exercise thing. |
IT LOOKS LIKE IT DOES HAVE A NICE PATINA, TOO BAD IF IT WAS RECENTLY CUT OFF. SOME OF THESE AFRICAN CLUBS WERE LONGER AND LIGHTER AND HAD A SMALLER HEAD AND SERVED MORE AS A BADGE OF RANK THAN AS A BATTLE WEAPON. THE HIGH RANKING PEOPLE NEED NOT KILL AS THEY COULD ORDER OTHERS TO DO IT. OR A GOOD SHARP BONK WITH HIS BATON COULD SERVE AS PUNISHMENT AND WARNING. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TRIBE THIS CLUB MAY HAVE COME FROM PERHAPS SOMEONE WITH MORE KNOWLEDGE IN AFRICAN AND ZULU ITEMS CAN HELP.
