Good evening all, and I hope someone can give me a little more knowledge about the origin of this blade.
Last Weekend I was at a fair in Pontoise just on the outskirts of Paris, and my friend bought this blade off one of the stalls.... A fairly standard sabre type blade, ricasso, single broad fuller and a blunt false edge with a thread cut on the end of the tang. Photo below of it on the floor next to a metre rule. At the base of the blade are stamped a set of numerals in Arabic on both sides. Not much to go on I know, but can anyone give me some idea of age and origin. Many thanks to all, comments and suggestions welcome. |

 David,
My guess is that this is a blade from a Persian shashka, which was modeled on the Russian M 1881 dragoon shashka. Here is a link to an old thread on these swords: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2696 Double check the blade's dimensions to be sure. Regards, Teodor |

ya figures on the tang .. the heart shape is Farsi for 5.

I thought these were Arabic numbers: 1 2 3 4... ;) I agree with the ID. But, if Persian, the point has been doinked with. They have a spear point.

The numbers are the serial number it reads 16746 and on the other side it read 15.
