6 Attachment(s)
hello all,
have recently acquired the spear shown in the attached photos. the spear, which i assume is a ceremonial weapon or, a badge of rank.

the blade (which is pierced in cross designs and impressed with circular designs) and the socket are 20.5" in leangth. overall length of the spear is 55".

the bottom of the haft is tapered and rounded at the tip. sorry, i have no idea of the type of wood.

any help will be most appreciated.

YEP ETHIOPIAN LANCE HEAD, IT SHOULD HAVE A SOCKET FOR A SHAFT AT THE OTHER END THESE LANCE HEADS CAN BE QUITE LONG BY THEMSELVES I HAVE TWO EXAMPLES ALMOST 5 FEET LONG THAT ARE FROM THE WW2 TIME PERIOD. VERY LONG LANCE POLES WITH SEVERAL OF THESE HEADS CARRIED TO BE LEFT IN THE TARGET AND REPLACED ON THE SHAFT WITH ANOTHER FOR ANOTHER PASS. YOUR EXAMPLE COULD HAVE BEEN FIXED AND HAD A SHORTENED POLE FOR CLOSE IN FIGHTING OR COULD HAVE BEEN USED AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. IT LOOKS OLDER THAN THE WW2 EXAMPLES I HAVE AS WELL AS BEING SHORTER.
