African Spear For ID & Comments
5 Attachment(s)
Picked this up, at the Kenner show, last weekend. (You never know what you'll find at a gunshow) Head is 14 1/4" long, 4" wide. 61 1/2" overall. Only approximately 19" of the shaft is wood. Very interesting design work, to the iron wrap, just above the copper band. I've seen this style blade on a sword, but never on a spear. Of course, this is waaay out of my area. Have stayed away from African weapons on purpose. Too much variation. I collect in too many directions as it is. Any info as to origin, and value, is much appreciated.

My best guess would be Mbole, Congo. But I am far away to be an expert. Very very nice example. And sorry, we still don't discuss the value of any items.
Hopefully others will be able to confirm my guess. Regards, Detlef |
Here a thread where is shown a similar example but far away from the quality of yours. http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ighlight=mbole

I love the blade on this. I'm not into African pieces, but I like this!
