Hi,
This sword came out of the woodwork locally from the family of the original owner ,overall in very good condition the leather of the scabbard has almost fossilized? there is a similar hilt at the York museum[in the book on English Basket Hilts] the inner guard is dated 1731? and 2 other marks a set of punched dots and a small mark that i can't work out,the inner guard has what appears to be black pitch which also appears to have at one time also been on the outside?has a very old scabbard repair . there are 2 further marks a 45 and a 60 0n the scabbard and pommel , Any help much appreciated. Thanks Mark |
