hello
This is my last adquisition, I bought like a hunting knife, with 17 in of total measurement.from XIX century, the handle is horn and the blade have some engravings and words SOLINGEN and HOLLER. Someone could tell me more information? best regards carlos |
Wow! A very nice clipped-point bowie style knife! I'd guess mid to late 19th. The knife makers in Germany, just like in Sheffield, were producing daggers of the bowie pattern not only in Europe, but for the American market (of course, most of those used in the U.S. had some associated motto, etching, etc. I used to own a real beaut with Solingen markings that was made for the South American market, with etched gaucho on horseback, scabbard resembling a brass facon dirk sheath with matching designs to the guard (probably made for a wealthy German traveler). Sadly, the American bowies (and those imports with known American usage) fetch obscene prices versus those used on the European continent. I do like your bowie. Very intimidating-

This knife is made of broken sword blade I guess.
