And Yet Another Dagger
8 Attachment(s)
Here is another dagger that I believe to be from Luzon. The scabbard I do not think is original but it is what came with it when I acquired it. Any thoughts that anyone has on this would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Robert P.S. I forgot to add that the blade is made from an old file or rasp, the guard and collar are of steel and the end cap on the horn hilt I believe is of pewter and more than likely salvaged off of some other item. The collar also has an old collection number painted on it. |
Interesting addition to your collection. You have a good eye for interesting items.
Would like to see your Luzon dagger collection in a group picture. Regards, Detlef |
When you clean up this new find, I would love to see close ups of the distal end cap with the designs on it..........
|
Detlef, I'll see what I can do.
Jose, I'll try to post a close-up of the end cap tomorrow. Regards, Robert |

Jose, here are a couple of photos that show the end cap a little better.

Thank you Robert. Nice to see the details. Different plant motif than I am used to seeing.

Hello Jose, It is quite different from what I have seen too. I think it is a piece that was re-purposed off of some other item possibly a chair leg or some other piece of furniture. It reminds me of one of the other daggers I have (picture below) where thimbles were used for the ferrule and end-cap. Like the old saying goes, Waste not want not.:D

tang
Hi Robert,
The tang, is it peened or threaded? I asked the end looks like it would unscrew from the images. Thanks Gavin |
Hello Gavin,
The tang is peened. The piece on the very end where the tang comes through is made of brass while the cap itself I believe to be pewter or zinc. Regards, Robert |
