Anyone Here ?
Bid on or win this ?

I did not.
It looks Balinese to me and the hilt is the rice demon (whose name escapes me). Although the carving is ornate, would this be considered high end tourist? |

I SAW IT BUT IT DID NOT GRAB MY FANCY SO I DIDN'T BID.
THIS SORT OF CARVING ON THE HANDLE MAKES ME WONDER IF IT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE CHINESE GOOD LUCK BADGER OR THE JAPANESE RACOON DOG TANUKI ( OFTEN ENTERPRETED TO MEAN BADGER IN ENGLISH BUT IS ANOTHER ANIMAL) PICTURE OF THE KERIS HANDLE IN QUESTION AND A TANUKI PICTURE JAPAN. |
This is a genuine, authentic mid-quality 1970's Touristico Keris.
In the '70's they still used genuine old blades, as this one is, but its Javanese, and the quality of carving is not bad, but they used probably sono wood instead of kayu areng for the dress. In fact, a piece like this is worth getting hold of as an example, and at the price its really a give-away. |
I figured it wasn't the dress that was the cause of interest in this case .

Yeah, i was watching it as well, though not really interested in acquiring it. As Alan pointed out, looks like an old Jawa blade in the touristy Bali dress and certainly well worth the money paid. Looks like it might be a sada saler pamor, which is what raised the interest in me in the first place. :)

Handle is IMHO a effigy of Nawasari.
|
Thanks Sajen - Nawasari. Couldn't remember the name.
