Like a Dha but not a Dha.....
1 Attachment(s)
Trying to ID a sword.
Similar to a Dha with a grass bound long wooden handle (around 27cm long) with a carved wooden bulbous pommel (slightly smaller than a pool ball) which is facetted like a crown or fircone (almost). Simple brass ferrule, no guard. Blade about 50cm long, V shaped near the hilt like a Dha, then curving upward from just over half way down, and getting broader toward the end to a wide flat thin 'chopper' near the end. ...... Perhaps I should draw this? Any thoughts? EDIT: Ok here's a sketch, reasonably close. |
Panabas?

Any chances to obtain a pic, Gene?
I don't think this likely is a panabas. While some abberant panabas have been posted (try a search), the hilt seems to be off on several features. If it does look like a dha to you, I'd guess this is much more likely to be of Burmese/Thai/Lao/Khmer craftmanship. Is the braiding raw "grass" or worked plant fibers or finely split rattan? Well, as long as our opinions are based on the Atlantia's artistic talents rather than plebeian photographs, we can throw in any possibility under the sun: dha with unusual blade, panabas with unusual handle, ottoman dagger with a broken blade etc, etc.

LOL, sorry chaps, no chance of a picture at present.
