Tausug barung?

Came across this barung in the Philippines last weekend and didn't pick it up as I felt the price was too high. What do you guys think of it? Definitely 20th century (circa WW2 I believe) with good weight and the right balance. The hilt is kalabaw (water buffalo) horn. The handle looked quite new, which made me hesitate.

I'm no expert but my gut tells me it's recently made. I don't know if you're looking for antiques or newly mades... The carving on the sheath doesn't look like old stuff, and you're right the handle does have a newer look about it. I've talked to a vendor and he admits that the newly made blades, some are low quality and others quite good, but most aren't quite as good as the antiques.

Oh I agree - the whole thing is very recent, much later than WWII, perhaps 1970s? Good to pass on this one if you are looking for antique pieces.
