Indonésia or Philippines?
6 Attachment(s)
Good morning to all, I searched this knife in the Zonneveld book and I did not find it. I think it's Indonesian but the little clamp gives me doubt. Indonesian or Philippine? If somebody can help me for its identification,, thank you in advance.
It look old, the blade is very sharp, it measure 20" OVL, the blade 15", the ferule is made with silver and I don't know if the handle is ivory or bone and black wood. Regards |
Hi Ericlaude,
it's a very nice and unique knife like a mixture between Sewar and Sundang. I have never seen something like this but my feeling says me that it is maybe a Peninsula dagger. So far I know Sewars are also found there and the mix from white and black at the handle and tip of the sheat let me think like this. Very nice find! :) Regards, Detlef |
Interesting...i've never seen anything quite like it, but the sheath definitely gives me the feeling this is Indonesian. I understand why the clamp caused you question as i have never seen them used on Indonesian sundangs, but everything else seems to point towards Indonesia.

Hello Eric, A very interesting and nice item. Does this piece have a full length tang and could you post a picture of the end of the hilt? To me the hilt looks like it could be made of bone and horn but a closer picture could help to decide.

Me too David, I know the Moro's clamps, but I never seen it on the indonesian items. I bought it with an old mandau, is it a Dayak work?

I HAVE SEEN A FEW ITEMS WITH SIMULAR BLADES KIND OF A CROSS BETWEEN A KERIS AND SEVERAL OTHER INDONESIAN KNIVES. ONE PICTURE HERE WAS REFERRED TO AS A NIAS KERIS. THE OTHER AS A WHAT IS IT. THE PICTURES ARE POOR BUT THE CARVING ON THE (WHAT IS IT)SCABBARD LOOKS LIKE SOME OF THE STUFF COMMING OUT OF LOMBOK. A INTERESTING AND ATTRACTIVE ITEM CONGRADULATIONS. :)

I agree. Never seen anything like this before. I also lean toward Malay since they do sundang with clamps.

I agree with Jose. Never have seen anything quite like it. Leaning to a
peninsular attribution..........Dave. |
