Philippine knife (?)
Hi,
A student of mine recently gifted me with this knife. The person he bought this from said it was African, but he thought it was Filipino. The shape of the handle certainly reminds me of other blades from the Philippines. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4045/...4e8b31fe_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4038/...619e21db_o.jpg The sheath is a simple sandwich of wood, and appears to be missing at least one band of some type. The backside of the sheath shows three holes where some sort of belt retainer had been nailed in (now gone). The handle has been repaired and some sort of modern glue is holding the metal collar over the handle. The blade is convex ground. Any suggestions to origin would be appreciated. thanks in advance, |
It is Filipino alright. Perhaps Visayas for cutting like a buyo knife?

reminds me of my somewhat newer Jun Silva (a panday in Cebu) made Garab knife:
