The Roman (?) Warrior
Not exactly an ethnographic weapon but interesting: In the middle of nowhere, on a high cliff above the deep gorge of Wadi Keziv, some 70 km north of Haifa, a mysterious artist carved on the wall of the cliff an image of a warrior:
http://www.oriental-arms.com/photos/extra/38/000438.jpg It is about 3 meter high, 10 meters above the cliff base and about 100 meters above the bottom of the gorge: http://www.oriental-arms.com/photos/extra/39/000439.jpg Who made it?? When ?? and for what purpose is a mystery. It is believed to be Roman or Hellenistic but not any stronger clue. There is no archeological findings in the vicinity and the closest old site around is a small Byzantine settlement about 5 miles to the east. I visited the place earlier today (a rough trip in a 4X4 vehicle) and thought it would be to nice to share with you this interesting find. |

I might be way 'off base' ....but I see a knight as being a possibility. The rock is heavily eroded and light and shadow can give misleading 'outlines' . But to the figures left hand side (chest) there appears to be a 'shield' shape with , perhaps part of a cross .....Knight Templer ?
