Similar design cues in very different forms
Greetings,
I apologize if this is not fitting to this forum. Please delete if it is out of place. I like kerises. I also happen to like watches as some of you might know. A few days ago I took the watch I had on my wrist off and placed it onto the kitchen table on which Solyom´s "The World of The Javanese Keris" was already. Did some daily chores then having to do with drilling, hammering and so forth. When I returned to put the watch back onto my wrist I suddenly noticed a sort of a "similarity" between the two items on the table. - What do you think? http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...M/DSC01294.jpg |
Obviously there was a cross-cultural pollination between the unknown gentleman who designed the lambang Karaton Surakarta, and the technocrat who designed your Seiko, Jussi.
I think you're probably entitled to feel a little bit Royal when you wear that watch. |
Dirk Pitt would not wear a Seiko .... ;) :D

Who's Dirk Pitt?
If he's real true blue ridgy didge fair dinkum Yankee boy he probly wouldn't wear anything but a Hamilton --- or maybe an Elgin on off days. |

Of course I would not refuse a modern 600T or a Sharkhunter if given one :p Personally I dig Old School better what comes to watches as back in the day they were designed to fit a purpose - not to fit a market segment or a specific position on a brand portfolio. Just look at that tool watch of Mr. Maisey´s it is so purposeful it does not even have a light nor any lume for that matter :D |

I like vintage. The more reliable the better :D http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...M/xhieralw.jpg |
Jussi, your selection of vintage military pieces would delight the heart of my son.
He went to Ukraine a couple months back and bought a whole heap of vintage military time pieces. They wouldn't let him take them out of the country, so he had to get them posted to him. Funny system. Yeah, vintage Doxas are nice. And vintage Hamiltons, and vintage Elgins, and vintage Tudors, and vintage almost anythings that have a bit of class, a bit of style, and a modicum of hand work in them. Nice if they keep accurate time too, but really, that's secondary. Right at this moment I've got a Fortis on my wrist, and on my desk in front of me an Eterna that I bought in Surabaya that I use to keep my computer honest, a Hamilton 992, a Hamilton 720, and beautiful rose gold Doxa ( thanks Rick). I love Doxas--I think of my Doxas as doxies--archaic English---look it up. |

I don't want to start talking about that rolex, but Doxa is quite exquisite, without being too flashy and all.
Where I live, Doxa is rather an acquired taste. Few retailers have it, thus fewer people spotting it around. My friend an engineer has it, and its a tough watch I would say. Do it need branding promo? I reckon it wouldn't. That's the best way of maintaining its exclusivity... As for me, for the short-lived aeronautical dreams and career path, I rather be with my Breitling... |
