Islamic lance head for I.D. & translation
3 Attachment(s)
Hi
I have had this for years, but never really knew what it was - possibly Persian ? Could anyone please assist with identification and maybe with translation of the inscription... Many thanks. (sorry slight hiccup) |
Colin,
Nice spear head. Indo-Persian for sure, and does look 19th Century Persian. Although its shape of typical Qajar form, the writing style is quite unusual for the type ... but I'd still attribute it to the late 19th Century Qajar period. I like the double-groove feature, and would not be surprised if the blade is of wootz steel (I'd definitely test-etch it, Colin). The Koranic writing goes like this: "Don't consider those killed (in the name of God) to be dead. They are alive with their God sustaining them". |
Many thanks for the information, Alex.
Regards Colin |

my background it's not enought to tell you something about his identification only, I may confirm what Alex told you part from the Holy Quran - surah 3 : "The Family of 'Iran" - verse 169 Think not of those who are slain in Allah.s way as dead. Nay, they live, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord à + Dom |
Many thanks Dom.
