Looks like it was artifically aged. Here is an old one for comparison. Yours has Aluminium ferrule which makes it post WW2 wood lacks any patina carving seems very fresh not older than 1970s-80s I think.

THE FORM IS OF COURSE A BARONG,THE BLOOD GROVE DOWN THE CENTER OF THE BLADE IS NOT SEEN ON NORMAL PHILIPPINE BARONGS AND IS THE FEATURE MOST UNLIKE A BARONG ON THE ITEM. THE DESIGNS ON THE BLADE DON'T REALLY STRIKE ME AS PURE PHILIPPINE THERE ARE TOO MANY OF THEM AND THEY DON'T FOLLOW THE USUAL FORMS I HAVE SEEN.
THE CARVEING ON THE WOOD IS VERY WELL DONE AND DEFINITELY THE WORK OF A PROFESSIONAL CARVER. PERHAPS IT IS MAYLASIAN OR BORNEO WORK AS TO AGE THE ALUMINUM IS USUALLY WW2 OR LATER. I PERSONALLY LIKE IT AND IT IS NOT A CHEAP TOURIST ITEM. PERHAPS IT WAS MADE FOR SOMEONE DURING OR AFTER WW2. CONGRADULATIONS :D |
As I mentioned earlier this has the design and features of a Palawan barong. You can check earlier threads that mention this like this one:

Thanks again for all your views. With reference to earlier threads, yes, It makes sense to me that this piece originated from Palawan area. I conclude that the blade is before or after the war ( heavily used ) while the hilt and scabbard were replaced later perhaps in 1950s. The Ukiran (carving) I think, is a splendid handwork perhaps done by a professional wood carver in the 1950s. The blade fits very well indeed into the scabbard but unfortunately all rattans that that were tied up around the scabbard at upper and lower ends were found missing, needs a redo. The blade is functional and still very sharp. To those who are interested to own this piece, will put it at the SWAP Forum later on with reshoot pictures.
