Kukri for I.D. and comment
 

Hi

I recently acquired this kukri (it came with the Sudanese arm dagger shown on another post). As Asian antique weapons are not my main area of interest, and I don't know so much about them, would someone be able to give me information on this kukri (approx. date etc)...

Length of the knife alone is 16 inches in a straight line, tip to tip.

This style of Kukri is still being manufactured today and yours could date from recently to 40 years ago or more. The horn handle looks to be nice quality,
is the blade polished or plated?
If it's plated then this Kukri was most likely made for the tourist trade.

Kukri with that style of handle were in production in WWII, especailly in the Dehra Dun area, with both wooden and horn handled variants.
Some are of very good quality in the steel, and Gurkhas were issued with these types of kukri, although I have not seen a dui chira issued one, but Angkhola and standard cross section ones were.
Yours does look post WWII, but of good quality, have you been able to test the metal yet?
Some British Tommies had the blades chromed of the ones they brought back, in some cases in India, and some when they returned home, which is a bummer to remove!
They were also issued to the Gurkhas post WWII as well.

I've got one very similar, that is plated, AND has good steel. Go figure. :)

Many thanks all for your comments on the Kukri. The steel blade seems of good quality as is the construction of the handle, (the brass butt plate has come loose a bit). The brass studs on the belt loops do have a military appearance....
