Keris in Japanese museums/galleries

Hi all,

I'll be going to Japan for a holiday soon and plan on going to the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno.

Are there any museums or galleries in Tokyo or Kyoto that have any notable keris that you could recommend me?

Gustav is really very good on museum related things, I suggest you PM him.

There are probably a number of keris to be found in Japanese museums, but the only one i am aware of is the Sendai keris. Bit of a trek north from Tokyo, but i believe it is in the Sendai City Museum.

Hello Jaga,

The really nice keris mentioned by David may well be the most important one in Japan. I’d assume that the emperors must have received keris as gifts as well but don’t know if any are on display.

Sendai is pretty close to Fukoshima. If you dare the hike, make sure that the keris really is on display first!

Regards,
Kai

I have visited a few museus in Japan but didn't see any keris... but plenty of katana swords...

Hmmm... I wonder why?! :p
