Fine pair of Large Syrian Jambiya (Druze)

8 Attachment(s)
Fine pair of old Syrian Jambiya daggers, Dating to the first half 20th century.
Similar examples are dated 1920s, these possibly a little later. Made in the Druze village of Majdal Shams (Tower of the sun) in the Israeli occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
Not quite identical, as their decoration is slightly different, they are clearly from the same workshop, same age and are so close as to make a great pair.
These are heavy sturdy weapons, weighing around 260/270g each, without scabbards.
Total length of daggers approx 28cm/11inches, with thick, double edged steel blades centrally ridged and with etched panels (both sides) near the hilt. The blades are approx 5mm thick at the centre thickest point, with tangs extending to the top of the hilt.
Hilts made from compressed disks of goat horn and camel bone, with inserts of metal and other materials. Mosaic inlay in good condition with only a couple of tiny chipped pieces on either hilt.
If it wasn’t unusual enough to have two, these amazingly still have their braded cotton sashes, which are also in great condition.
Both have soldered brass scabbards, with twin suspension loops. The scabbards nicely decorated with scrolling patterns. Both have original wood liners. One scabbard has slight split on side where the blade has worn through from use. This is not serious and does not affect the scabbards use.

These are very different to the thin flimsy smaller versions made for tourists in Damascus, and must not be confused with them. These are about as good as this type of weapon gets.

Last chance on this fine pair of daggers before I offer them elsewhere.
These are hardly ever seen in this condition with their sashes.

Decided to keep these, so they are no longer available for sale.
Thanks to those who offered swaps etc.
