Brass-Barrelled Flintlock Holster Pistol by Heylin 1770

I started photographing this Brass-Barrelled Flintlock Holster Pistol today, but I’ve decided to stop and clean off what looks like some dried linseed oil.

This pistol was made by Joseph Heylin circa 1760. I am looking for a copy of Norman Dixon article "Joseph Heylin, a Georgian gunmaker 1730-1801". It was published in “The Journal Of The Arms & Armour Society Number: 3, Volume: 17, March”. Does anyone have a copy they'd like to share?

Here is what Blackmore’s Gunmakers of London has to say about Heylin:

HEYLIN, Joseph
Gunmaker, ‘at the Cross Guns’, Cornhill, 1757 (Sun Ins. No. 159890). Made free of Gunmakers Co., by redemption, proof piece & mark, 1757. Elected Assistant, 1773; Master, 1777. Gunmaker & stone crossbow aker, 48 Cornhill, 1757—79; 100 Bishopsgate Within, 1780-1 (Dir); Aldersgate St., 1796 (Pol). Contractor to East India Co., 1773-7; Hudson’s Bay Co., 1775-7; African Merchants Co., 1760. d. 1801.

Silver hallmarks became obligatory in Britain between 1697 and 1720. These hallmarks are a valuable aid in dating antique British firearms. For the Heylin pistol shown here:

A pair of boxlock pistols by Joseph Heylin

Another product made by Joseph Heylin with silver mountings hallmarked by John King too. The thumbplates show a monogram "G.G.v.C." under the royal English crown, but until today it was impossible to find out, to whom of the Royal Family this monogram once belonged. Because of the "v." - the German "von" instead of an English "of" - the monogram is certainly a German one but who was it?

Hello

In the text of Norman Dixon "Georgian Pistols", pages 44-58, it deals with Heylin

A pair of pistols cavalry with silver fornitura

Two pairs of pistols for comparison

A pair of pistols presentation with guns guns plataUn pair of traditional design

A couple of blunderbuss guns.

Interesting pair of box-locks corrado26.

Thanks Fernando K. I too have a copy of Norman Dixon book, but I am still hoping that someone here on the forum has a copy of his article "Joseph Heylin, a Georgian gunmaker 1730-1801".

After some very light cleaning, I've posted some additional photos on Google+
