Luzon Dagger

Hi gents,
Can you please help me to identify this dagger/knife? Handle is made of horn, fittings are made of silver.
Is this the Luzon dagger or it's Spanish Albacete dagger, or something else?
Thank you in advance.
Alex

Hello Alex:

Welcome to the Forum.

I believe you have a very nice example of a Filipino knife from Central or Northern Luzon, probably dating from the Revolutionary War period at the end of the 19th C. The intricately carved horn hilt is typical of that period and found on higher end pieces. This knife would have been owned by an affluent or otherwise distinguished person.

Battara will likely be able to give you more information.

Ian.

I'm with Ian on this. It is missing some silver parts, but otherwise a nice illustrious piece. I might say Tagalog, based on some Tagalog daggers I have seen, but I need more evidence to be sure.

Hello Alex,

agree, Central Luzon dagger, like Ian I guess end of 19th to very early 20th century. Very nice dagger, would like to see it again after it has received some TLC.

Jose, where you guess missing silver parts? I think it's complete.

Regards,
Detlef

Correction: now I see where they are missing! ;)

Yup, I'd bet at twisted silver wire in the longitudinal grooves - would certainly look very nice to have this restored!

Kai
