Knife but from when and where

Hello,

I have this small knife (about 20 cm/ 8") that I have no idea where it came from and when it may have been made.

So any help is welcomed!

What's the grip made of? looks sort of Mughal/Indian.

It is some kind of wood.

The motifs look more Celtic to me.

The handle reminds me of the figural dragon carvings on the prow of Viking Longships.

But old enough to be Celtic? Scottish dirks take their wooden hilt knotwork design from Celt/Viking designs. Could this be a side knife from Scotland?:shrug:

After careful examination of the hilt I became somehow suspicious about the wood it was made of. So I decided to do a little filing.

To my surprise, It came out to be some kind of resin (like bakelite). So obviously the knife is a recent fake and I decided to have it destroyed.

Opps! So sorry for that. I think it's happened to all of us before...

To be a "fake" it would have to be pretending to be something it wasn't. Since no one knows what that could have been it is what it is (or rather was). I think you may have destroyed a fine letter opener. :)
